The Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) is the largest public awareness and grassroots fundraising organization for Special Olympics globally and that is no different on Canadian soil. The LETR holds a number of year-round fundraising and awareness events in communities across Canada.
The Torch Run™ is the most well-known event that the LETR host.
What started in 1981 as a flicker of hope for Special Olympics has now become a roaring flame of stability for Special Olympics athletes worldwide, the LETR is an event in which officers and athletes carry the Flame of Hope to the Opening Ceremony of local Special Olympics competitions, state/provincial Games, and National Summer or Winter Games.
Starting February 23 in Lethbridge and winding its way through 12 Alberta communities, The Final Leg for Special Olympics Canada Winter Games Calgary 2024 Torch Run, presented by TD will include a community celebration at Chinook Centre near TD in Centre Court on February 27 at 12:30 p.m.
The Flame of Hope will ignite support for the Special Olympics movement while making stops at Calgary area schools and hotels, before bringing all 12 of Canada’s Provincial/Territorial Special Olympics Chapters together by lighting the TC Energy Cauldron to officially open the Games that will showcase the very best of both the intellectual disability sport community and the city, that will create lasting impacts for many years to come.
