Calgarians Encouraged to Celebrate the Final Day of Special Olympics Canada Winter Games Sport finals begin at 8:30 a.m., Safeway’s Champions Celebration open to public 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., media invited to Closing Ceremony at 6 p.m.

CALGARY—Calgarians are encouraged to join in the final day of fun at the 2024 Special Olympics Canada Winter Games in Calgary by taking in a sporting event or the Safeway’s Champions Celebration that will be held inside Calgary’s City Hall Atrium on Saturday.

The Games Organizing Committee will hold a public come-and-go event, March 2 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., for Calgarians to show their support for the more than 800 Special Olympics athletes competing at the Games. Only 1,000 people will be able to access the Atrium at any given time.

Put on your red and white clothing and celebrate the power of the Special Olympics movement by joining the community for a day of fun activities and entertainment. The FREE event for the whole family will include a pancake breakfast, fun prize giveaways, DJ music, and photo booths while cheering on the Games’ medallists as they take the podium for an awards presentation.

Floor Hockey and Curling Finals Featured on Saturday The medal games in the floor hockey competition, held In Memory of Michael Van Ooteghem, along with Curling presented by Blakes, will take centre stage on Saturday morning.

The bronze-medal floor hockey games will begin at 8:30 a.m. at Seven Chiefs Sportsplex before the puck is dropped on the gold medal finals beginning at 10 a.m.

The medal matches at the North Hill Curling Club will begin at 9 a.m.

Media Invited to Closing Ceremony Presented by Calgary Flames Foundation, March 2 at 6 p.m. Media are invited to attend the private Closing Ceremony presented by the Calgary Flames Foundation at the Big Four Roadhouse on Stampede Park, Saturday, March 2 at 6 p.m.

The short 45-minute celebration of the athletes for invited guests will be themed around a Country Glitz and Glam.

The high-energy event will showcase Calgary artists and a performance by the Band of Outriders. The action-packed Closing Ceremony is designed to celebrate inspirational moments, athletic achievement and a successful mission of leveraging sport as a catalyst for transformative change for a more inclusive Calgary, Alberta and Canada before passing the Special Olympics torch on to the next summer host city, Medicine Hat, Alta.
